From now on, citizens will have a single document for enrollment in educational institutions, application for driving license, Aadhaar Card or Passport, preparation of Voter List and marriage registration Birth certificate must be used as. Birth certificate shall also be considered as the only document for appointment to the posts of Central/State Government or Local Bodies or Public Sector Institutions or any statutory or autonomous body under Central or State Government. The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023 has been amended for this purpose. The amended law will come into force from October The Act was passed in the session of Parliament in August this year and was approved by President Draupadi Murmu. The Central Government, exercising the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023 (20 of 2023), shall implement the provisions of the said Act from 1 October this year. As a result of the amendment, the government will have more accurate information on births and deaths of Indians, which will bring transparency in the provision of government benefits, Union Minister of State for Home Nityananda Roy said while introducing the bill in the Lok Sabha. The Act will facilitate the inclusion of provisions for digital registration and electronic issuance of birth and death certificates for the benefit of the public. It will also help in creating a national and state level database of registered births and deaths, which will help in upgrading other databases for efficient and transparent delivery of public services and social benefits.
